Fast and Furious 6: Racing Movie on Steroids

Was the Fast and Furious 6 a race movie on steroids, or what? Many of the stunts were unbelievable — but then I guess they were meant to be.

Dominic Torretto (Vin Diesel), who retired after stealing $100 million from a crime boss in Rio de Janiero, is roped in by agent Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) to crack down on an elite international group of high-tech robbers riding in fast cars. The reward? Full pardon for all the crew, and a chance for Dom to catch up with his till-now-assumed-dead ex-flame Letty (played by Michelle Rodriguez). The other team members of team Dom  from the previous films in Fast and Furious series jump in to showcase their talents, and to enthrall us with some high-octane action.

Viewers will obviously be pleased to see other old favorites like Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), Mia (Jordana Brewster) Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Han (Sung Kang) and Gisele (Gal Gadot) play their part in the cat-and-mouse game.

But they would not fail to notice that the rival crew features some new interesting characters. There is a dude Klaus (played by former footballer and bodybuilder Kim Kold ) who is hulkier than the Rock . He’d be perfect as the giant cop Picard from the Jack Reacher thriller Killing Floor by Lee Child, if they make that novel into a movie and Dwayne plays the part of Jack Reacher. Surely Dwayne can also rock that part given that he is about the same size as the fictional ex-military detective.

Also the rival crew’s leader, Shaw (impressive work by Luke Evans) is quite a study. Shaw seemed to be atop-o-things but then some mistakes (specifically put in the flick to allow Dominic Torretto played by Vin Diesel to win the game) ruin everything. Evans would be great on screen as the former special-forces soldier Nick Stone from the novels by Andy McNab. Those Nick books deserve to be adapted by Hollywood.

The race scenes, the occassional comedy, the well-crafted heist scenes make it a must watch for adrenaline junkies (that includes me and you, else why are you reading this?)

The ending made it clear that there’s definitely another Fast and Furious movie in the offing and also that there’s a new threat on the horizon. I’m hoping that I don’t have to wait for too long to catch that one.
